Description
Multiple puss caterpillar cocoons at the base of a near 5 story maple tree. The leaves are iris plants where the tree was planted. Last year when the cocoons opened the puss caterpillars devoured the entire garden pretty much to the base of the iris plants. Upon finishing there cycle the iris plants regrew. This past winter New Orleans has had a milder than ever winter and none of the plants suffered from any freezing temperatures. The cocoons appear to look like bark of the tree at one end you may see a tiny hole and the other end has a lid which pops open to release the mature caterpillar. The puss caterpillar is one of the most toxic of all caterpillars in the United States. If you flesh comes in contact with the caterpillar you will experiencing extreme burning, swelling, in some muscle may paralyze and in cases extreme lymph node complications. The body's lymph nodes defend against infections and foreign toxins in the body....
