Description
The American Flag waves from the stern of the tall sailing ship Constitution which made an unexpected layover in the Port of New Orleans at Woldenberg Park on the Mississippi River. I was employed as a desk clerk concierge years past and received a call at the Hotel de la Monnaie from the captain of the tall sail ship looking for a hotel room. At the time the city had no occupancy due to a major convention in town. I was able to contact time share owners and I was able to provide hotel stay for the captain and crew. The boat at the time was used for training troubled youths. They were given a new direction and option instead of juvenile detention facility they were trained to maintain and operational duties of the ship. Out of his appreciation providing lodging at the hotel, the captain allowed me to have a personal tour of the tall sailing ship. It was not open for public tours and I was humbled by his gesture. I met the crew and the galley hands (youths onboard and had a pleasant time learning about the history and was allowed to take photos throughout the ship. The tall building behind the american flag is New Orleans, Louisiana World Trade Center, It was original named the International World Trade Mart Building and later renamed the World Trade Center. The building is located at the foot of world famous Canal Street and the Mississippi at the Spanish Plaza. The bar on top revolved 360 degrees and guest would see a spectacular view of the city of New Orleans. My first chef career began at the private restaurant named the Plimsol Club an exclusive member only dining. While employed at the New Orleans World Trade Mart I was making arrangements to transfer to the World Trade Center Window of the World in New York but my plans were changed and did not make the move. The New Orleans World Trade Center has been vacant and will be the future home of a major hotel. This photo was enhanced to accent the majestic flag blowing in the wind.
