Whitney Plantation era 1790 Freedeans Church exterior instead of clap boards or otherwise name siding cypress cut wood scales were used on the entire exterior of this period church, the church was moved from another location to the site of Whitney Sugar Cane Plantation, the entire church was moved across the Mississippi River traffic on the bridge in that area was halted until the church could be moved which stands at its current location, , the church is made of cypress wood, the facade of the church has fish scales a architectural term instead of clap board or siding, some particular plantation owners would bring the slaves living on the land to church on Sunday, inside the period church is church pews and statues created by a sculptor depicting slaves as children. The memorial statues are placed throughout the church. Each statue has a story which is described on the lanyard given to you a photo of a statue and tis story. Historic documentation when they were free actually became prominent individuals in history, there are a total of three major memorials of the actually slaves who were enslaved on Whitney Plantation, a historic sugar cane plantation located less than an hour west of New Orleans, Louisiana. Whitney Plantation is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with emphasis focused on the lives of enslaved people. On the plantation remaining are the original slave cabins, freedmen's church, a detached kitchen and out buildings. Also on the plantation are memorials built to honor the enslaved. Whitney Plantation has been host to many Hollywood movies productions.
