: This spectacular night-time photo was an historic event, the re-naming and night time lighting of the Louisiana Superdome to the now Mercedes-Benz Superdome. This photo was the first photo submitted and approved for Panoramino of Google Earth. The structure was home to many conventions, concerts, a visit from the Pope, The light show changes constantly. The Superdome also was host to the 2013 Super Bowl. The Super Dome is also home of the Super Bowl Champions The Saints NFL football league. They had plans originally leveling the Super Dome and construction a new facility. The Super Dome was completely renovated instead. The facility host many football games, conventions, Mardi Gras Balls where the floats actually roll around the interior of the dome. During Hurricane Katrina the Super Dome was an evacuation center for the thousand of individuals who were not able to leave New Orleans. During the height of the storm the roof started to peel away and water was sent pouring inside while citizens were seeking shelter. During to the failure of no electric and unbearable conditions the dome is no longer used as a safe refuge from hurricanes. The Super Dome still remains the iconic image you view when you fly, drive, or view around town. The glassed mall which once connected the Super Dome from the Hyatt Regency was torn down to build Champion Square an outdoor public area with wide large outdoor screens are space to hold large outdoor events.
