Artist's Description
This public water meter cover is unique to New Orleans, Louisiana. Over the years regardless were you walked the water meter covers were being removed by collectors, tourist. The homeless or scrap metal collector would steal them and bring them to scrap metal for sale. The original historic covers can be found such as this one but are hard to come by. The heavy cast iron was titled Crescent Box as New Orleans is known to locals and world wide as the Crescent City due to the fact we are situated in the bend or crescent of the mighty Mississippi River which flows through New Orleans. This photo was taken with a Nikon 820 and would be ideal to any collector of New Orleans History. The design is very detailed in design. Local artist over the years have painted and photographed the image of the unique water meter drain cover. In some areas were they once stood are empty holes in the sidewalk called banquet here in New Orleans and if not careful one could fall and hurt themselves....
