Description
This amazing photo was taken on Veterans Highway in Metairie, Louisiana USA These American Flag banners were ripped to shreds from the powerful hurricane force winds of Hurricane Katrina. Mother nature can be very destructive with anything in its path. As the world knows if it were not for the structure failure of the levees New Orleans, Louisiana would have not have been totally devastated as it was. The tital surge from Lake Pontchartraiin entering the canals or waterways which normal flow and drain water out of the city was too forceful. Because of soil erosion below the flood walls which protect the city gave way and the flood waters from Lake Pontchartrain pretty much flooded all the lower lying areas.
First responders the U.S. Core of Engineers, the U.S. National Guard responded to stop the continuous flow of water. Since the devastating destruction and stress points in the levee systems which surround the metro area.have been re-in-forced to prevent a repeat. Since the storm the construction of levee system along with the worlds largest pumping station has been constructed to minimize the future threat of another Hurricane Katrina type storm.
Being a local citizen when I was able to return to the city and get a first hand look at the massive destruction it was just beyond comprehension. The enormous loss of life and destruction of so many homes and businesses.
Scientist have stressed life here on planet earth will have to co-exist with the forces of nature.
Since the day of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, Louisiana has done basically what it needed to do to protect a community, its people and its value contribution to American History.

Hello Nadine and Bob, wow, I had gone back into my gallery, and thought I had submitted this to the group months ago but did not until yesterday. I appreciate this very much. Because the photo Torn Freedom, regardless what type of reproduction either banner or an actual flag which suspends from a flag pole, the United States of America has regulations of proper flying, hanging and disposing of the American Flag. Viewers if they have never seen the regulations can search this on line. I am humbled to be among so many other artist on Artists News 1 Daily and to be associated with the continuous dedicated work Nadine and yourself put into the site. Cheers, Michael Hoard
