Description
Hail King Rex, the King of Mardi Gras 2014, despite, the cold and rain all day the weather did not halt the annual celebration of Mardi Gras in New Orleans. At one point during the day celebration it actually sleeted for a brief period. Being a local it was one of the coldest and rainy of Mardi Gras. This photo was taken with a Nikon 820 auto settings. Most of all the float are towed by tractor, years past horses pulled the actual floats. Most floats were designed atop wooden wheel wagons. Some crews still use the original wagons and build the entire float to them. The attendants on the float with Rex are called pages. During the official ball held Mardi Gras evening when the two courst Comus and Rex meet, the pages follow the King and Queen and adjust there beautiful cape as they walk and toast the subjects at the ball. Most balls are by invitation only. Most of the super modern crews you can pay to attend its open to the general public.
