One of four confederate statues to be removed from public sight in New Orleans Here Lee appears to have stepped back off his pedestal and perched high atop one of the support poles for the St. Charles Avenue Street Car Transit line. The removal of confederate statues has made national and international news. The city has not announce when the removal will take place but the remaining three will be removed.
As the lettering of the hotel at Lee Circle the removal of all the designated states is a hot topic in New Orleans, across the country and around the world. Many rally's and peaceful protest for and against has taken place with few arrest from demonstrators. The removal of the statues have been taking place during the night hours to avoid serious confrontations among the protestors. This past week about 200 demonstrators approached the statue of Jefferson Davis some with guns and machine guns.
The first monument has been removed during the night hours. Fireman and police wore mask and bullet prof vest to protect themselves. It was discovered that city employees of the Fire and Police Department. This brought attention by news media to the residents of the city that city employees unqualified for the task of the removal. Private contractors were asked to give bids for the removal of the statue.
The fight continues for future statues to remain, such as the Statue of Andrew Jackson in world famous Jackson Square in the French Quarter. which was not initially considered as one of the four for removal from public view. .
