Description
A worker holds in his hand a giant wrench to remove the nut which held the 20 ft tall bronze statue of General Robert E. Lee. The wrench was so large it had to be lowered by the crane to the ground below. The strap tether was secured around the waist of this magnificent sculpture. The statue was pulled away from atop the pedestal around 6:03 pm This photo and others in the series a future book release "The Rise And Fall Of The Confederate Statues In New Orleans" All rights protected, copyright by the photographer, title and photos.
All workers and officials working on the removal detail wore coverings over their face as well as bullet proof vest. The other three statues were all dismantled during the night hours. The statue of General Robert E. Lee began removal at 7 am and finalized at 6:03 a monumental task.
