Description
One of a series New Orleans Graffitti Speaks Louder Than Words, This magnificent painting by world renown street graffiti artist was painted about three years after Hurricane Katrina sometime in 2006 I had remember seeing this painting not long after Banksy painted it. I had lived in the area not far from the location. This painting of a girl holding an umbrella with hand extended outside the umbrella made international news. Vandals were in the process of chiseling away the cinder blocks when neighbors got wise and contacted authorities and TV news reporters. The to be theifs were caught and were going to sell the piece underground in LA. Neighbors attched a clear plexiglass to prevent vandals of painting over the original. In 2017 vandals struck again and applied a tar like substance over the entire area, community and neighbors removed just about all the tar like paint to its current condition. Many of Banksy originals have been painted over or the building themselves demolished....there are only a handful of Banksy's original work since his visit to New Orleans sometime around 2008 which totaled around 15 all throughout the area.... Today March 12, 2019 I finally located the Umbrella Girl once again and captured the photos now posted in my gallery. This one of a series New Orleans Graffiti Speaks Louder Than Words.
