This photo taken with a Nikon 820 macro telephoto zoom, manual settings. This particular pyramid is off limits to the public to climb. This pyramid was built to study the stars, sun, and meditate. east to west stairs were constructed on the sides and the north to south sides are curved. A passage way at the top reveals a beam of light when the solstice takes by twice a year by the sun rising and setting in the sky. This photo would be ideal for any Mayan photograph collector.

Great capture of Xumal! I saw it many years ago and it was amazing! I didn't have a good camera then, but it truly was magical to see it tucked away in the jungle. l/f
