Description
This alligator photo was taken at John Lafitte National Park at Lafitte, Louisiana. I was walking on the boardwalk at the time and heard movement and looked across the swamp and a alligator surfaced. Jean Laffite is on the National Historic Register of National Parks. The boardwalk takes you deep into the swamp. During certain times of the year tourist must keep a watching eye out for reptiles and alligators as seen in the photo. The boardwalk is elevated about a foot off the actual swamp. Early and late spring is the best time to view the area. The hot and humid summers here are extreme weather conditions. There are many different hiking paths which to choose from. My personal favorite is the boardwalk, when you reach the end and up over a bridge. There is a lookout and as far as the eye can see are wild yellow Iris's. During one of the major storms brought tidal surges and the salt water intrusion destroyed all the wild Iris's thou not all were affected many did survive. Swamps are considered moats, brackish fresh water, anytime salt water comes inland it destroys the natural eco system. I have personally visited the Jean Laffite National Park with friends and out of town guest and with each adventure there is always something new never seen before. If you do visit during the summer best advice is wear light colored clothing and perhaps an insect repellant.
