A period painting possible late 1800's, unknown artist. Digital paint was applied to this painting and color enhanced. The original painting part of a private collection hanging in a Historic Sugar Cane Plantation. Mardi Gras official begins in New Orleans 12 days after Christmas which is January 6, 2017 The Epiphany. The Mardi Gras or Carnival ends on Fat Tuesday February 28, 2017 the day before Ash Wednesday which in Catholic Tradition begins the 40 days of Lent. Mardi Gras is always the first Tuesday 40 prior to Easter Sunday.
On 12th Night which is all Kings Day January 6, 2017 revelers ride from uptown to downtown on the St. Charles Avenue Phunny Phorty Phellows, members dress in typical Mardi Gras Costumes and toss beads from the St. Car and stop and toast along the route.......Mardi Gras Day is celebrated in New Orleans on February 28, 2017
