Description
This bystander watches the Anual Christmas bonfire across the river from New Orleans in Algiers Point This community tradition was started by the Fire Department of Algiers Point, in there spare time they would construct on the levee of the Mississippi River directly across the river from New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Either side you had a spectacular view. The fire department and the City of Algiers Point would demolish abandoned houses which were used as refuge for crack dealers. This particular photo was a project consisted of draws which were removed from the trash thrown out from the devastating disaster of the residents who lost there homes in Hurricane Katrina. The artist put a item found at each house were the draws were recovered. They built a towering pyramid structure with the draws recovered and placed a christmas tree atop. And along with the community and the artist who conceived of the idea she set the bonfire ablaze to let the memories laid to rest.
