Description
This photo of a painted sign pointing to the entrance of a door of a building located in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana was still visible when I took the photo in the 1980's. This sign has been removed when the new owners renovated the historic structure, the photo is a color photo I did enhance the photo in sepia tone. to reveal the faded lettering. Though a reminder of a Historic Period in American History I was relieved the new owners had painted over the sign. Of my 56 years of photography this one photo in retrospect represents a powerful and historic day photographic record of my photography. The original scan had noise (pixels) by using sepia tone it created a painted appearance to the photo.

This is a fantastic minimalist photo, but also, such a great social commentary. I remember these days well. When we start to wax nostalgic about the "old days" and the old ways, we need to remember this image to also remind us many of those days are well left behind. Instant vote, fave, and my Pick of the Day in the Minimalism in Photography group discussion.
